18 Jan Finding a mural artist near you
It is easier when living in a capital city to find a mural artist near you. For example, there are
mural painters in London in almost every borough, but the problem becomes finding someone
who will suit the project you have in mind.
Exterior murals are very different; they need to cover large areas quickly so the technique used
is spraying and blending and using aerosol paint cans and rollers; paintings are seen from a
distance does not need to have attention to detail, but it is a particular skill set that you can
achieve good results working close up that look good from a distance. The term for types of
graffiti-style murals are Urban Art.
Before the discerning client starts to look for a mural artist nearby they have to have some idea
as to what style they want, whether a classical mural or something a little edgier. There are
after all many painters in the UK and there is an artist perfect for every style of painting it is
finding them.
There is also the challenge of mural pricing as this ranges vastly according to the
experience of the muralist and also how much detail in the prospective commission, time is
money, but there is also the point that most artists are painting as much for the pleasure as for
the money.
I know personally that if required to do an artistic commission that I really would like to paint and
it would look good in my portfolio and add to my experience I am much more likely to charge
less, proving once again it is important for the client to find the right person for the job.
The job of commissioning a muralist or trompe l’oeil artist is made so much easier since the
the internet took over from searching in the backs of interior magazines, with artists having to travel
with his portfolio instead of being able to look at all the work on a website and eliminate all
unsuitable candidates and discuss directly the website contents with the potential ones.
To sum up the points I have made, when searching for a mural painter in London or anywhere in
the UK, you must first have some idea of what you want to do with regard to style and color
palette. Secondly, try searching the internet in Google or another search engine for an artist that
suits the style that has inspired you, it is worth being thorough.
Thirdly, realistic mural pricing, if you want to commission a painting that is very detailed and well-executed it is not going to be
cheap. The good news is there are plenty of artists in the UK that is good at creating large
murals quite quickly (scenic artists) if you are not too discerning.
